Constitution Day and Citizenship Day
Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year is required to hold an educational progra m about the U.S. Constitution for its students on September 17 (if it fall s on a weekend\; it should be held in the previous or next week).
Th is posting is intended to remind affected educational institutions of this responsibility and to provide examples of resources for them to consider using in developing their program. We are also offering examples of resour ces for students and learners of all ages.

al organizations to recognize the vital role of all types of coaches\, inc
luding instructional coaches\, who serve as mentors and guides in various
fields. \;
Key aspects of this date's significance include:

Distresse d that 25 percent of the country's World War I draftees were illiterate an d 9 percent were physically unfit\, representatives of the NEA and the Ame rican Legion met in 1919 to seek ways to generate public support for educa tion.
The conventions of both organizations subsequently adopted res olutions of support for a national effort to raise public awareness of the importance of education. In 1921\, the NEA Representative Assembly in Des Moines\, Iowa\, called for designation of one week each year to spotlight education. In its resolution\, the NEA called for: “An educational week ... observed in all communities annually for the purpose of informing the public of the accomplishments and needs of the public schools and to secu re the cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs.”
The first observance of American Education Week occurred December 4-10 \, 1921\, with the NEA and American Legion as the cosponsors. A year later \, the then U.S. Office of Education joined the effort as a cosponsor\, an d the PTA followed in 1938.

The month is a nationwide observance to recognize the
original inhabitants of the United States and their lasting impact on the
nation. It'\;s a time to celebrate rich cultures\, languages\, and trad
itions\, and to educate the public about the history and present-day issue
s facing Native peoples.
Origin:
The
observance was officially established by President George H.W. Bush in 199
0 when he signed a joint resolution into law.

s:
The month highlights the ingenuity\, resiliency\, and sove
reignty of Native communities. It also serves to honor Native American vet
erans and to raise awareness about important issues such as intergeneratio
nal trauma and the lasting effects of policies like the Federal Indian Boa
rding Schools.
Annual Nati onal School Resource Officer Appreciation Day
The Natio nal Association of School Resource Officers encourages schools and communi ties to recognize the valuable work of their school resource officers (SRO s) during National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day on February 15 of every year.
We e stablished National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day in 2022\, aft er receiving frequent inquiries from schools around the country regarding the most appropriate day to recognize their SROs. NASRO encourages schools and communities to take time on Feb. 15 of every year to let their SROs k now how much they appreciate the work these officers do to bridge gaps bet ween law enforcement and youth and to keep schools safe.

The SRO assignment is unique within the law enforcement profession. These sworn law enforcement officers fill a t hree-part role\, serving as informal mentors or counselors\, law educators \, and law enforcement officers to support the students and communities th ey serve. They are valuable and essential members of the education communi ty who deserve unwavering respect and support from the public in the pursu it of keeping schools and students safe.
We chose Feb. 15 for Nation al School Resource Officer Appreciation Day because it falls during the tr aditional academic year and is the birthdate of Archie Hodge\, the only NA SRO founding member who remains active on the organization’s board of di rectors. Hodge\, of Jackson\, Mississippi\, retired from law enforcement i n 2006 after serving as an SRO for 22 years.

World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.1 bil
lion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action
to tackle the global water crisis. A core focus of World Water Day is to
support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanit
ation for all by 2030.
